I hold a Master of Science (MSc) degree in the field of mathematics (major), computer science (minor) and pedagogy (minor).
Since early 2015 I’ve been very actively involved in the digitalization process of the Finnish high school final examinations: though my company I’ve provided hardware as well as software solutions to high schools in order to help them in the transition. My customized wireless network device called Nettiniilo is used by over 80 % of all high schools in Finland.
Even though I’ve done part-time jobs and projects relating to webdesign and teaching since being a high school student, I kicked off my full-time work career as a high school math teacher and computer systems admin. After three years of teaching I resigned and started working as an entrepreneur in October 2011 combining my backgrounds in education and computer science.
While working as an entrepreneur in the intersection of education and computer science I’ve been offered computer science related positions from multiple organisations, including but not limited to Rovio (2013, edutech related), Siili Solutions (2014, Drupal developer), Telia (2015, PaaS product owner), Nixu (2015, software security consultant) and during 2017 a few machine learning related positions via Talented.fi. I have nevertheless chosen to decline these offers and continue working as an entrepreneur.
Currently besides serving clients of my company, I’m studying for another MSc degree at the University of Jyväskylä majoring in Cyber Security and minors in business studies. University of Jyväskylä is the only university in Finland currently offering an MSc degree program in cyber security; the curriculum has been jointly developed by the university, the Cyber Division of the Finnish Defence Forces and IT companies.
Besides being the name of my company, Nettiniilo is the name of a customized Wifi access point device that I’ve created and of which I’ve sold at least one unit to over 70 % of all Finnish high schools (March 2015 - April 2017). The Nettiniilo device streamlines the use of Finnish Matriculation Examination Board’s Abitti exam system in school everyday use.
Opetus.tv is a website featuring over 1800 educational videos covering topics in high school math, physics, chemistry and biology in Finnish.
Opetus.tv has 60 000 - 70 000 monthly active users according to Google Analytics (2017). As there are approximately 110 000 high school students in Finland at any given time, that means roughly 55 - 64 % of Finnish high school students visit the site on a monthly basis.
Opetus.tv is free for students and teachers to use for studying / teaching. Opetus.tv is funded by it’s creators.
Maintaining and developing the school intranet that was running on Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP workstations. To automate things I wrote a lot of ActiveDirectory GPO scripts in JScript among other things.
Teaching math and computer science to high school students.
